I just started this project in 2023, around the time that I got back from my honeymoon with my wife. Since then it has been a very busy whirlwind of life and productivity for the project. I never thought I would get the attention, positive and negative, that I’ve received for it. I also did not think that it would get as interesting as it has.
The new album is about halfway done. I’ve started and stopped it a multitude of times, just like the other album I was working on in parallel.
Here’s an update on that stuff:
Church Sickness – It’s awhile off.
Hell – It’s very close. The instrumentals for all the tracks are about 70% complete, and once those are completed I’ll start the vocals. Usually that recording process is quick, but the rest of the album sounds so much better than my previous work that I want to make sure they’re as perfect as possible.
I like my first black metal album (The Self-titled) but it doesn’t come anywhere close to Hell in any measurable way. I have also seen my friends in Alaretin and Oak of Weeping release their debuts and both of those beat the pants off of almost anything else I’ve heard in the Christian Black Metal scene. You should go look them up, right now. Way better than my stuff.
I also did not expect to embrace and run with the Unblack Metal designation, then completely disown it. Watching our scene get invaded with fascists and straightforward racists is so odd. I’m watching the same thing happen in punk rock now, thought it took a little while. These things have always been problems, but it’s so easy for people to be brazen about it now. I think they should be able to talk about it so we can know who to avoid, but I don’t buy that you can be a Christian and a Nazi. I will throw that assertion right out.
